Logical Thinking – Is It Good or Bad?
Jean Piaget, one of the founders of psychology, recognized the limits of logical thinking in three stages of cognitive development. During concrete work, Piaget observed that logical thinking is best reflected in the child’s ability to use logical reasoning. Reasoning is characterized by thoughts, ideas, principles, judgments, considerations, and conclusions; and it is one of the foundations of human intelligence.
I like to describe logic as the step-by-step analysis of problems from the point of view. High thinkers are highly intelligent and have excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills. It is also well known that when a person acts wisely, he is wise. At the same time, rational thinking has its limits in terms of structural requirements; removal of emotional intelligence; and generalization involved.
Design Requirements
Rationalism is associated with atheism; I believe this is the result of a narrow minded attitude. I say this because logical thinking consists of ideas, concepts, facts, and conclusions. Concepts including ideas, concepts, facts, and conclusions are made through step-by-step analysis. In other words, rational thinking is narrow in the sense that thinking requires structure. For example, when solving a math problem, to find the correct answer you need to calculate step by step using standard methods. There is no deviation from the steps made by the formulas, to get the correct answer. In comparison, some rationalists simply believe in reality, they have to see it to believe it. It is impossible or difficult for some rational people to deviate from the visible reality or believe in the invisible.
Emotional Intelligence
Logic is also defined as abstract reasoning or higher order thinking; and the ability to be independent in thought without involving thought or emotional intelligence. Making judgments and decisions without being influenced by emotions is a powerful tool, especially for people who have emotional problems or suffer from depression and anxiety. Emotions can get in the way of our thinking and cause us to lose focus and make poor decisions. Remember that emotional intelligence is important for building good relationships, therefore, intelligence itself has its limits.
Generalization
Logical reasoning leads to generalizations that are used in scientific methods of reasoning. An idea, a concept, a sentence, a law, a principle, or an idea is used critically to test an idea, to determine the whole truth. Summarizing is tantamount to stereotyping which we know can have a negative effect on society as a whole.
The end
Without thinking it can be difficult to do simple tasks like cooking or planning our day. Critical thinking is essential for reasoning, problem solving, and decision making. Thinking helps us to be independent so that our thoughts do not destroy our lives. Like everything else in life (except energy), there are limits; logical thinking is limited to its structural requirements that do not include emotional intelligence. The associated logic does not account for many small possibilities, which in my opinion is a narrow approach. To answer the question “reasonable thinking, good or bad?” With both good and bad, there is a place and a time for everything; it’s all about balance.
“Too much of everything even good and bad” Shakespeare.
