City Life Versus Village Life
A city-dweller has many advantages over his country-dweller. The city provides its residents with easy access to education. The city has many schools and residents are spoiled for choice. Schools are also easily accessible. In contrast, schools in villages are few. There is usually one school for two or three villages. Students often travel long distances to attend school. City schools are also good. They have better equipment and the teachers are also qualified.
People living in cities do not lack for entertainment. From a simple movie theater to a high-end theater, all these are available in the cities. There are cultural policies that do not exist in villages. For people in the villages, the greatest joy is when there is a wedding in the village. Sometimes there are little shows too but most of the time they have to use their imagination to have fun.
Cities also have modern facilities such as electricity and cooking gas. Villagers rely on their oil lamps to light their homes after dark. To get cooking oil for their food they need to forage in the forest. They have to walk long distances carrying heavy wood on their backs. Drinking water should also be collected from common areas. They do not have access to tap water.
These cities have well-organized transportation. Public buses ply the streets regularly. Then there are taxis and other means of public transportation. This village has none of these. The most common way to get around is to walk.
Since I was born in the city and grew up in the city, I would prefer to live in the city. The city has its challenges but I don’t think I could live without the benefits it has to offer. I am very used to them. However, sometimes I envy the villagers who find peace and contentment in their simple village life.
