"Crazy Sexy Kitchen" Produces Plant Based Excitement
A few years ago, there were very few cookbooks. These days, there are many, and I recently learned that there are 200 new vegan cookbooks on the way!
Good news, unless you’re choosing a cookbook to add to your library. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to choose, as I received the Crazy Sexy Kitchen version as a gift. With the title “150 Plant-Energizing Recipes to Start a Water Change” – and avoiding the word “vegan” – Crazy Sexy Kitchen teaches us about the many benefits of a plant-based diet (for animals, the environment, and health) and declares that every step towards A “plant-based diet” and away from the Standard American Diet is good.
While some may believe that offering fun cookbooks is a marketing gimmick, the approach of co-authors Kris Carr (of “Crazy Sexy Cancer”) and Chef Chad Sarno is sure to appeal to anyone looking for fitness and vitality.
What I love about CSK is that it emphasizes traditional recipes using fresh local vegetables, and offers a variety of cuisines and cooking methods, from basic to sophisticated. CSK has a wide range of raw recipes (16 pages devoted to juices and smoothies, 23 pages to salads, and a few entrees) and technical and baking recipes, featuring renowned vegan chefs including Tal Ronnen, Sarma Melngailis, and Fran Costigan.
Before you delve into the recipes, this guide provides you with the basics of the Crazy Sexy Diet (Carr’s previous book), information on preparing your kitchen, cooking tools and tips. Carr summarizes the Crazy Sexy Diet (CSD) as “an exciting plant-based, nutrient-rich way to eat and live a lifestyle that’s compatible with your beautiful body at the cellular level.” He explains that inflammation causes disease, mentions the dangers of dairy, meat and sugar, and talks about acid/alkaline balance (pH), too:
“As part of your healthy inflammation plan, I encourage you to reduce or eliminate all the icky foods that irritate your body. Most of the vittles found in the Standard American Diet (SAD) – meat and dairy, refined fats, wheat, processed. processed foods. and high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners and trans fats.
Carr, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 31, says of the controversial topic of soy medicine that “many of the same doctors who tell patients to avoid soy don’t mention the high levels of estrogen and other growth hormones found in milk. Avoid soy because of cancer, please.” reconsider throwing away the milk.”
All recipes are labeled with recipe labels according to food preferences (soy-free, gluten-free, raw, kid-friendly), as well as difficulty level (“eazy breezy” or “cheffy”), and “time saver”. You were the first to eat raw food, and I’m glad to see that Crazy Sexy Kitchen has some great examples of raw food recipes. Apart from juices and smoothies, there are also old school foods like raw noodles and “rawvioli” (ravioli made with a coating made from chopped beets). Carr says he encourages people to “eat raw foods” and that more raw and cooked foods are better in the long run.
