16 Most Inspiring Famous Failures

To be successful in business or in life, I realized that we have to keep improving. Putting myself on the line every day can be overwhelming, especially when things aren’t going the way I want them to. Therefore, whenever I encounter a frustrating event or unwanted outcome, I DO NOT forget these common failures:

1. Bill Gates, the founder and chairman of Microsoft, has literally changed the world of work in the 21st century, by simplifying the way computers are used. He became the richest man in the world in the last decade. However, in the 70s before starting school, he dropped out of Harvard University. Most amazingly, he started a software company (which soon became Microsoft) by buying software technology from “somebody” for just $US50.

2. Abraham Lincoln, never received more than 5 years of education in his entire life. As an adult, he entered politics and had 12 major failures before being elected as the 16th President of the United States of America.

3. Isaac Newton he was the greatest English mathematician of his generation. His work on optics and gravity made him one of the world’s greatest scientists. Many thought that Isaac was born wise, but he was not! When he was younger, he didn’t do very well in grade school, so poor that his teachers couldn’t control his grades.

4. Ludwig van Beethoven, a German classical music composer, is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time. His reputation has inspired – and often intimidated – writers, musicians, and audiences who were to come after him. Before starting his career, Beethoven’s music teacher once said of him “as a composer, he is hopeless”. And during his career, he lost his hearing but managed to make some great music – a deaf person making music, no surprises!

5. Thomas Edison who invented many devices that had a profound impact on life in the 20th century. Edison is considered one of the most prolific inventors in history, with 1,093 US patents to his name. When he was a boy his teachers told him that he was too stupid to learn anything. Setting out on his own, he went through more than 9,000 experiments before creating the first successful light bulb.

6. The Woolworth Company was a retail company that was one of the first five-and-a-half-year-old department stores. The first Woolworth store was established in 1878 and Frank Winfield Woolworth and soon grew to become one of the largest retail chains in the world in the 20th century. Before starting his own business, Woolworth got a job in a dry goods store when he was 21. But his boss wouldn’t let him serve any customers because he thought Frank “he didn’t have enough intelligence to buy customers”.

7. By accepting, Michael Jordan he is the greatest football player of all time. An amazing athlete with a unique combination of grace, speed, power, skill, leadership skills and an insatiable desire to compete. Jordan also defined the NBA star himself. Before entering the NBA, Jordan was an ordinary, very ordinary guy who was cut from the high school basketball team due to “lack of talent”.

8. Walter Disney was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, and animator. One of the most famous film producers in the world, Disney founded a production company. The company, now known as The Walt Disney company, generates $30 billion in annual revenue. Disney started his business out of his home garage and his first designs went awry. At his first press conference, a newspaper editor insulted Walt Disney because he had no good ideas about filmmaking.

9. Winston Churchill He failed grade 6. However, that didn’t stop him from working harder! He worked hard and eventually became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War II. Churchill is often regarded as one of the most important leaders in British and world history. In a poll conducted by the BBC in 2002 to determine the “100 Greatest Britons”, participants voted Churchill the most important of all.

10. Steven Spielberg is an American film director. He has won 3 Academy Awards among the best filmmakers in history. Above all, Steven is recognized as one of the most successful motion picture directors of all time. As a child, Spielberg dropped out of high school. He was forced to return and was placed in a class for people with learning disabilities. He only finished one month and then he dropped out of school forever.

11. Albert Einstein was a physicist who is considered the most important scientist of the 20th century. He was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his description of the photoelectric effect in 1905 and “for his services to Theoretical Physics”. However, when Einstein was young, his parents thought he was disabled. His grades at school were so low that a teacher asked him to drop out of school, saying, “Einstein, you will be nothing!

12. In 1947, one year into his contract, Marilyn Monroe it was dropped by 20th Century-Fox because the producer decided it was too unremarkable and impossible to act. That didn’t stop him at all! She continued and eventually became recognized as the most famous movie star of the 20th century, sex symbol and pop icon.

13. John GrishamThe first book was rejected by sixteen agents and twelve publishing houses. He continued to write and write until he became well known as a novelist and writer of modern legal dramas. The press has made him one of the best living novelists of the 21st century.

14. Henry FordThe first two car companies failed. This did not prevent him from joining the Ford Motor Company and becoming the first to use line production in the production of cheap cars in the world. He not only revolutionized industrial production in the United States and Europe, but also had such an influence on the economy and culture of the 20th century. His combination of mass production, high wages and low prices for consumers has led to the school of management known as “Fordism”. He became one of the three most famous and richest people in the world during his time.

15. Soichiro Honda he was rejected by the Toyota Motor Corporation during a job interview as an “engineer” after World War II. He continued to be unemployed until his neighbors started buying “homemade scooters”. After that, he started his own company. Honda. Today, the company has grown to become the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer and one of the most profitable automakers – beating giants such as GM and Chrysler. With a global network of 437 companies, Honda designs, manufactures, and markets a wide variety of products, from small engines and scooters to specialty sports cars.

16. Akio Morita, the founder of a major home electronics company, Sony Corporation, the first product was an electric rice cooker, it sold only 100 rice cookers (because it steamed the rice instead of cooking it). Today, Sony has a turnover of 66 billion dollars and is the 6th largest electronic and electronics company in the world.
