Vietnam Family – Family Meals
In Vietnam, family meals are very important. It is part of a happy family especially when people are busy with their business. In some big cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh, parents are always busy, they have to get up early in the morning to take their children to school before going to work. In the past, a woman often prepared breakfast for the whole family but this tradition or custom was somehow neglected due to lack of time.
Children study with lunch at school, parents work with lunch in offices or restaurants or anywhere else they like. Dinner is an opportunity to share food and talk after a busy day. Some fathers or mothers do not meet their children for many days because when they come home from the office, their children are asleep and when they wake up in the morning, their children have gone to school. This situation is very common and often happens in some families with busy parents who often come home very late or are always on business trips. Restaurants are still unfamiliar to many people and families in Vietnam. The reason is simple, eating out in restaurants is more expensive than at home. However, there are some changes, small families (husband and wife) prefer to eat in restaurants because they don’t want to cook.
In general, the importance of family food is still highly appreciated. For many people, family meals are one way to make their family happy. Food doesn’t just sound like lunch or dinner, it can sound like feeling and sorrow, sharing and caring. In many Vietnamese families, women know which dishes their husbands or children like, they try to cook those dishes as often as possible or on special occasions. On the moth test, a young student writes on the topic: What is success? He wrote: “Success is easy, it’s easier than you often think, success comes when a father and his son try to cook the food that mothers love most on Mother’s Day or International Women’s Day even though it is not as delicious as others do . dinner is when relatives have not met for a long time.
Vietnam is moving, changes happen every day, life is so fast that a family meal is not something if everyone ignores their traditions. Some men do not want to go home after work, dinner and the atmosphere of the dinner prevent them from doing so. Preparing daily meals may be simple but the results are great. Unfortunately, many girls forget this group and try to find happiness elsewhere. They think that success in business will bring them everything but if they have a happy family, things will be good for them.
Some tourists want to explore Vietnamese culture, they often visit families, go to local markets and buy food. Is this a way to learn to cook? The answer is “Yes” but the implications are much more than that.
