Northern Cyprus Property: What’s the Attraction?
Northern Cyprus. Many kilometers of natural coastline, remote sandy areas and beautiful unspoilt beaches, which are located next to the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. With the peaks of the beautiful ‘Five Fingers’ mountains, at the foot of the valley between Famagusta and Nicosia, it is one of the last unspoilt places in the Mediterranean. The beautiful natural environment, with pine-clad mountains and sandy beaches make it a unique place that many people believe does not exist. The North coast of Cyprus is a great and safe place to swim in the Mediterranean. The crystal clear waters are ideal for swimming, water skiing, sailing and skiing.
The ancient island, inhabited since the Stone Age, is the famous abode of Aphrodite, the goddess of Love. Ancient civilizations include the Egyptians, Persians, Romans, Venetians, Ottomans and British. The legacy and culture from these civilizations is evident throughout the island, but nowhere more so than in the North, where historic sites abound. The castle of St Hilarion and the ruins of the Abbey at Bellapais are just two of the wonders of the past, which are simply breath-taking.
The identity of the island is that of Cyprus. Friendly and welcoming people are one of the first things you notice when you meet them for the first time. Enter the towns and local tavernas and you will meet friendly people who make you feel at ease immediately. Many locals speak and understand English and encourage visitors to try to learn the language. There are several places where you can learn to speak Turkish in a relaxed atmosphere, which will keep you busy during the winter months perhaps!
A foodie’s paradise, you don’t have to travel far to experience delicious freshly prepared dishes with plenty of local vegetables and locally caught fish. With over 300 restaurants to choose from, it’s impossible to find one that won’t satisfy a variety of palates. Local Cypriot cuisine is inspired by Turkish cuisine, although there are many excellent restaurants based in Europe and other countries. An evening stroll down to the port in Kyrenia will find tourists spoiled for choice between the many restaurants and cafes where you can sit and never leave while eating in a hurry. Eating out is still affordable, and always a lot of fun! There are several night clubs in and around Girne (Kyrenia) for those who want to have a busy night life!
The cost of living in Northern Cyprus is the lowest in the UK, but the standards are on par, with the added bonus of beauty and weather! The number of permanent residents of Britain is growing every year, and is integrating into local communities, not outside of them as has been the case in other favored and former countries. A legacy from British colonial days means that cars drive on the left and since car hire is cheap and easy, getting around is not a problem.
In the last two years, Northern Cyprus has experienced a real property crisis. Property prices have doubled in the past year, and economic growth is still possible. There are different types of accommodation to be found, from large and small villas to town centers. Popular options among these are the houses built by SeaTerra, one of the most developed in North Cyprus. East of Girne, their operations are near the village of Esentepe and along the road to Tatlisu.
The fact that more people are now aware of Northern Cyprus shows that there is a great opportunity for more tourists to start visiting the area. This seems to be a realization in Europe and around the world. With about 215,000 people living there permanently, this number doubles during the summer months. With a new golf course due to open soon, as well as plans for a 400 Marina near Esentepe, this will undoubtedly be an attraction for those who have yet to discover this wonderful place. There are currently about 60 hotels in the area, with another 11,000 beds planned and under construction. More than 60 flights a week arrive at Ercan airport during the summer, this gradually increases and many other flights bring people to Northern Cyprus via Larnaca in the south. The increasing number of winter tourists shows that the mystery of Northern Cyprus is well and truly alive.
