5 Great Barbados Hotels
I call this article “The Five Best Hotels in Barbados”, but then I decided that “good” is a standard, and there are many good hotels in Barbados. So I chose “The Five Great Hotels of Barbados.”
Every hotel is unique and if you stay in one of them I am sure you will be very satisfied.
1 Crane Beach Hotel
When you land at Grantley Adams airport take the minor road and drive east, you will arrive at what could be paradise. At the end of a long journey, I am sitting on top of the famous Crane Beach, a beach that Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous recognizes as one of the ten best beaches in the world, and the first hotel I stayed in Barbados.
The Crane Beach Hotel is a coral reef building, with a main building dating back to 1790 and the property itself, the oldest operating resort in the Caribbean, dating back to 1887!
Elegant, yet formal, the Crane’s rooms and suites feature mahogany four-poster beds, stone baths, coral walls, and balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. If you can drag yourself away from your loft, just a few steps away you’ll find L’Azure. White tablecloths, candlelight and a soft guitar accompany the culinary delights prepared by its Michelin-starred chef.
If you want something more unusual, go to Zen, where Thai and Japanese chefs serve Sushi, sitting in front of a glass wall and watching the sea roll 50 stones below. Or, if you can’t tear yourself away from your room, you can order breakfast from your private balcony.
If you do not want to leave, and you will not be the first, you can take ownership of newly built houses. Owned for a week, a month, or literally and with at least seven homes per acre, and more than half a mile of beautiful landscape, you can’t get away from this hot spot.
2 Bougainvillea Beach Resort
Bougainvillea Beach Resort is the second hotel in Barbados that I have stayed at. It is a luxury resort, located on the beachfront, with 138 spacious suites, including studios, one- and two-room deluxe rooms and penthouses. It occupies a spectacular location on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, with pools, waterfalls and green gardens.
3 Fairmont Royal Pavilion
The Fairmont Royal Pavilion is one of my favorite hotels in Barbados. Fairmont has always managed to create hotels that are elegant yet friendly. This hotel is a popular destination during the long season (November 1 to April 30). Children are welcome from May 1 to October 31. Each of the 72 beachfront rooms is decorated in a relaxed Caribbean style, with private rooms or terraces. There are also three bedrooms hidden in the green gardens.
Sitting on a beautiful beach, the hotel feels like a home away from home, combining old world charm with modern amenities, you won’t be disappointed when you stay here.
4 Barbados Hilton Hotel
A five-star resort with 350 ocean-view rooms. All rooms have balconies, separate bathrooms, high-speed Internet, and cable TV. The hotel is built on the Needham’s Point peninsula and has two main beaches. A large swimming pool and whirlpool complex, a fitness center, three tennis courts, and a ‘Kidz’ paradise club make this a great place for families. The area has several restaurants and bars, from the beach to the famous restaurants.
I stayed in an old hotel, which was demolished. The old hotel left a lot to be desired but the beaches were spectacular. The beaches remain the same, and now the hotel is as impressive as the beaches.
5 Small Places
I can’t think of a better romantic getaway than Little Arches. This ten-room private hotel is a grand hideaway just steps from Miami Beach. King-sized beds and air-conditioning are standard, and beachfront suites feature luxurious whirlpool spas and terracotta baths.
Meals are served in room, by the pool or alfresco in the rooftop restaurant. The hotel’s Cafe Luna is Zagat’s top choice for best hotel food, first place voted for Mediterranean cuisine and number 3 choice for best food in Barbados in 2006/7.
