Executive Chef Justin Stadler Gives Chicago’s Lincoln Park A Much Needed "Drawl"

Under the leadership of Executive Chef Justin Stadler, known in Chicago from The Southern, White Oak Tavern and Regards To Edith, a must-see watering hole in Lincoln Park, ‘Drawl Southern Cookhouse And Whiskey Room’, located at 2423 N Clark Street, at the corner of Fullerton, can be described as “chic New American with a southern accent.” Using one of the last opportunities built in a wood-burning oven in the city, chef Justin of small dishes, entrees and sides, among home ingredients, wood-fired, smoked meat, and fresh fish of the day. Its refreshing take on southern cuisine sets it above the rest. “We’re not your typical fried and baked chicken,” says Chef Stadler. Short Ribs, Fried Chicken, Brisket Flat Bread, She Crab Soup, Home Made Beef Jerky, and Fried Pickled Okra are just a few of its offerings. Plus, if you like hot and spicy food, be sure to try Nashville’s hot wings. They are very hot, and satisfying. But I have to say that the char burger was my favorite part of the meal. Tastes were on point. It was probably the best burger I’ve ever eaten. Smoke, Duke’s mayo, and smokehouse ketchup were dancing in my mouth. I washed it with the high life of the miller, because I am a high man.

Mixology and cocktails are no strangers to Drawl. The wide selection of drinks at the bar will appeal to everyone’s taste. My favorite is the Pasadena, a cocktail made with jalapeño infused vodka, and orange aperol.

There is a wide selection of whiskeys in the private ‘Whisky Room At Drawl’ which sits comfortably in the southern barrel room. This will make whiskey connoisseurs happy. The look of wood burning, and the feeling of a quiet barrel room combined with the rich colors of blues and reds make this bourbon filled, dog portrait decorated with secret whiskey a paradise for whiskey lovers everywhere. Be sure to request a whiskey lesson from the house’s whiskey sommelier.

You can make reservations for the main dining room or the sidewalk patio, Tuesday through Sunday, at DrawlChicago.com. Otherwise you will have the “sad, sad” fate of every Chicagoan, sitting in their beautiful Charleston bar, drinking on a Drawl Manhattan, chatting with Elliott, or Whiskey guru Alette while your table is free.
